Making our chilled-red blend over the past few years really whet our appetite for mixing things together, and this year we were excited to keep experimenting with new and interesting things in the winery. This new Nonna Ya Business is the brother from another mother of the Mixed Business, and it started life as an experiment as we were making our standalone Fiano.

We make that wine by cold soaking the Fiano fruit for 5 days before it's gently pressed and the juice sent to barrels for fermentation. This year we didn't want the lovely juicy skins to go to waste so we decided to incorporate them into one of our fermenters that we'd just filled with Sagrantino fruit. The Sagrantino/Fiano blend then fermented along with the Fiano skins, extracting a surprising amount of floral and citrus aromas and flavours from the Fiano that mingled happily with the dark spice and fleshy fruit characters of the Sagrantino.

In fact as we tasted this wine through its maturation in old French barrels we realised that all it needed was a name to reflect the heritage of these two Southern Italian varieties. Nonna Ya Business had arrived.
