Originating from Sicily, Nero d'Avola has proved to be a great grape variety for Australia's warmer growing regions. It has been a leading variety in the new wave of Australian wines for the next generation. Many of these varieties are from Italy and lend themselves to the creation of complex and vibrant wines.
This wine was made from pristine fruit in a season that allowed for full flavour development at relatively low sugar levels. The naturally high acid content assisted us to make a beautifully balanced wine with very minimal intervention, only light hand plunging during fermentation. The resulting wine has lifted aromas of rose petal and red fruits, the palate is crisp with raspberry, pomegranate and subtle earthy flavours and amazing fresh length driven by silky tannins and bright acid.
Also extremely versatile, this wine can be chilled or enjoyed at ambient temperature. It pairs well with a broad range of foods but is also happy playing solo. Close your eyes and dream of Sicily.
